The rumors are true–Fox McCloud, protagonist of Nintendo’s Star Fox, will be in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The film’s official social media account confirmed his appearance by sharing a character poster for the anthropomorphic pilot.

It’s unknown who will voice him or how prominent Fox’s role will be, but the fact that he has his own poster seems to indicate that it’ll be more than just a cameo. The poster also features his signature Arwing aircraft in the background. With Mario and friends being new to galaxy traversal, Fox makes a lot of sense as a cosmic guide and traveling companion.

Fox’s appearance will come nearly 10 whole years after the release of the last new Star Fox game, the often-maligned Star Fox Zero for Wii U–unless you count the belated release of Star Fox 2 in 2017 for the SNES Classic microconsole. The character last showed up in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in 2018. The first Super Mario Bros. movie made a nod to the Star Fox franchise by featuring an Arwing figure in Mario’s apartment. Being in the new Mario movie will certainly energize the Star Fox fanbase, who have been craving a new game in the series.
